Application of Electrical Culture in Engineering Education

Abstract

In engineering education it is important for engineering students especially EE students to understand the electrical culture—the origin, application and development of electrical engineering discipline which has evolved from the integration and development of the “field†in the West and the “qi†in ancient Chinese philosophy over hundreds of years. This paper, for the first time, gives a complete description to electrical culture—a physical culture subsystem, including electrical culture concept, connotation and its development process. It points out that the introduction of the concept of electrical culture is useful for engineering students especially EE students to understand the origin of electrical disciplines and humanity disciplines, and to encourage them to explore and commit to scientific studies. Learning electrical culture can help cultivate students' passion and innovation in their field of studies and establish the scientific logical thinking.
