Internationalism and Cosmopolitanism: A Re-study on the Reasons for Chinese Intellectuals' Acceptance of Marxism

Abstract

The paper puts forward the important reason why Chinese intellectuals accepted Marxism. After the October Revolution of 1917, the Soviet Union exported revolution to China on the international principle. Both the internationalism and the cosmopolitanism of Chinese traditional culture embraced the same purpose for the benefit of all mankind. The consistency of supreme goals raised the strong interest of Chinese intellectuals in Russian revolution. In the words of internationalism, solving China's problems was included into the structure of world problems. It was really attractive for Chinese people who had suffered failures in the anti-imperialist struggle. The world significance of Russian Revolution was generally praised by Chinese advanced intellectuals, which manifested the important reason why they accepted Marxism.
