Study on the Intellectual Property Protection of Traditional Chinese Medicine Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza for the Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes

Abstract

Diabetes is the third major disease in addition to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and malignant tumors. It has become a major challenge in the global medical field. About 110 million adults have diabetes in China. How to use the traditional knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine to search for the cure of diabetes mellitus, is an important direction of diabetes prevention and control. Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza is one of the main herbal medicine for the prevention and treatment of diabetes. This paper describes the Salvia and its medicinal value, and studies the intellectual property protection of traditional Chinese medicine radix Salvia miltiorrhiza for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, from the perspective of geographical indications, patents, traditional knowledge, and so on. The paper explores its related strategies, puts forward some suggestions.
