An Analysis of Influence of Bible on English Idioms With Some Cases Study

Abstract

Bible is not only a religious classic but also an important source of western culture, which exerts a profound influence on many aspects of western countries. “Bible†vocabulary is a direct source of many English words. What’s more, after its generalization and derivation, it has greatly enriched the English vocabulary. Bible is the treasure house of English idioms, in English, there are a large number of idioms from Bible’s saying. Studying the vocabulary can enlarge the vocabulary of English learners, enhance the understanding of English cultural background knowledge and achieve successful communication.
