Relationship between Communication Skills and Emotional Intelligence Among Medical Students

Abstract


Study on the relationship between communication skills and emotional intelligence used to provide suggestions for improving communication ability of medical students. Methods Stratified random cluster sampling was employed for questionnaires from 964 clinical medical students in a medical school by means of CSS and EIS. Results There were statistically significant differences in listening, speaking ability and relationship establishment dimensions among different genders (P0.05) among different grades. The scores of emotional intelligence in different grades except self-regulated emotion (P>0.05) were statistically significant. There was a positive correlation between communication skills and emotional intelligence of medical students. Conclusion Communication skills of medical students need to be improved, and communication skills can be improved through emotional intelligence training.
