Abstract

The hydrophobic silica aerogels were prepared by the sol-gel method and the adsorption characteristics of their nitrogen adsorption at low temperature were analyzed. The static, dynamic and cyclic adsorption experiments of toluene vapor were carried out to study the adsorption properties of toluene vapor. The results show that the prepared silica aerogels are mesoporous adsorbents with a specific surface area of 732 m2·g-1. The surface of the silica aerogel has a hydrophobic methyl group and the adsorption capacity is up to 1.6g·g-1. The adsorption stability is strong. Dynamic adsorption temperature rises to 12 °C and the logistic model is use to fit the adsorption breakthrough curve with high similarity.
