Network Control System of Traffic Signal Based on IP
Abstract
Traditional traffic signal control system uses the integrated signal machine as the controller, which leads to the disadvantages like separation of networks and devices, complex system structure and large amount of cabling works. To improve these problems, based on the thinking of ‘Internet of Things’, the design put the controller in conjunction with lights, detectors and other transportation equipment, used standardized equipment and interfaces, and successfully designed Intelligent IP Units (IIPU) which are able to get access to the network, achieved independent control and complete the function of self-detected. When all the IIPUs finished the connection of server by using Power Line Communication technology, the network control system of traffic signal based on IP was accomplished. The result shows that the system could accurately and rapidly achieve the central control, manual control, coordination control and adaptive control under complex traffic conditions, which has a good ecological environment of development.
